STRATFORD Sharks secured an impressive second place behind hosts Redditch at the opening 2018 Nuneaton Junior League (NJL) meeting.

Sharks were only edged into second place by a narrow margin at the Abbey Stadium as the Stratford squad clinched 17 first and 15 second places.

Sharks NJL manager Yvonne Caswell said: “It was probably one of the best evenings of swimming I have witnessed from a junior Sharks team for many years and the team spirit from swimmers and supporters was fantastic.”

Sharks are in Division Two of the three-division league which covers seven counties around the West and East Midlands.

Some 54 teams of boys and girls, aged nine to 12, from as far afield as Oswestry, Hereford and Leicester compete in three rounds, with each of the divisions’ top six teams competing in a Finals Gala on September 8 to determine the league champions and promotion.

The Sharks Junior League team will be back in action in round two at Halesowen Leisure Centre on May 12.
