A SUPERB set of performances at the latest Midland League fixture has left Stratford Athletic Club in second position overall in the men’s and women’s leagues.

The club’s women’s 4x100m relay team leaped into the lead with an amazing display from the four girls – Emily Forman, Issy Cain-Daley, Amanda Evans and Dani Horton – who ran a very respectable time of 51.6 seconds.

It was a great day for Imogen Green who came back into the team with a winning jump of 5.32m in the long jump and a very impressive throw in the javelin of 33.01m, which was very close to her personal best and put her in first place.

Hannah Bexson also did very well in the javelin as she came second in the B string and set a new personal best.

She also did extremely well in the 400 metres, as did Abigail Flynn who came fourth in the A string and second in the 800m as she ran a very strong first race of the season.

Amanda Evans also competed impressively as she finished second in the B string of the hammer throw and recorded a good throw in the shot put which placed her third overall.

Forman was excellent in all her events despite hurting her ankle in the triple jump.

The women did very well on the track and helped push up the points tally for the team.

Dani Horton was flying in her 100m race as she came third and ran a very respectable time, whilst she also turned on the style in the 200m along with Cain-Daley.

Emma Bexson and Penny Stainthorp did remarkably well in the 3,000m considering the very warm weather conditions and Emma Bexson also had a great crack at the 400m hurdles with a time of 91.10 seconds.

The men’s field performed extremely well and kicked off with the hammer throw from Paul Hawkins and Graham Black who threw an impressive 27.07m, putting him third overall.

Martyn Helliker had a good day across a lot of events including long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus and also some track events.

In the men’s 1,500m Fergus Allison came third in his string thanks to a solid run and Hawkins did well considering it was his first run for a while due to injuries.

Josh and Matthew Newman both came third in their string in the 3,000m as both ran really well on what was a really good day for Stratford AC.

Report compiled by Issy Cain-Daley and Emily Forman.
