TWO students at Stratford School have celebrated being crowned champions after scintillating performances in their sports.
Oliver Cresswell took the gold medal in the high jump at the Warwickshire County Championships, while Jake Bailey showed his racing prowess to become Midlands Autograss Promotions Junior British Champion.
Oliver broke the county record in the championships at Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton, jumping 1.80m to take first place.
Oliver also set a personal best in the 80m hurdles, taking the silver medal in a time of 11.57 seconds.
Year ten student Jake also raced to victory to become autograss Junior British Champion. Despite qualifying sixth out of eight for the final after difficulties with his car in the four heats, he roared back to win the final by a quarter of a lap.
Jake, in his last year in the juniors, aims to move into Tarmac racing next year but he still has the British Autograss Series and the National Final to look forward to.
He has worked on his vehicle, doing 90 per cent of the maintenance, and paid for it 100 per cent by having a part-time job in the automotive field.
