STRATFORD & District Airgun League shooters gathered at Wilmcote Social Club for their annual presentation night during which a successful season was celebrated.

Match secretary Will Cemis gave a running commentary on team and individual successes whilst president Richard Groom presented the awards.

Wilmcote won the LC Docker League Cup after a marvellous run of 14 undefeated league matches, often with the highest team scores seen for many years.

They were also runners-up in the Thompson Knockout Cup which was won by Binton A, whilst Avon staved off a strong challenge from Binton A to win the Webley Shield.

Andy Smith retained the Whitbread Individual Cup and took the Roderick Baker Cup from three-time winner Jamie Clarke.

Graham East won the Senior Shield, Alison McMillan retained the Ladies Rose Bowl and Lester Langford retained both the Youth Cup and the Under 21 Highest Average Trophy.

Richard Mills, who has been shooting since the 1980s, won his first trophy when he won the Norman Dale Cup.

Andrew Clingan won the Snap Shoot Challenge Bowl, Jamie Clarke won the Baildham Cup for the third consecutive season and was presented with a certificate for attaining the highest number of possibles (12) this season.

The overall winner of the Paper Target Competition – introduced last year – was Andy Smith, with Paul Clingan winning Class B and Steve Everett Class C.

The award for the Most Improved Shooter went to Chris Reed.

Home Guard won the Four-a-side Charity Competition and the Pairs Cup was retained by Lester Langford and Andrew Clingan.

The Stratford league had a very successful season, winning all three inter-league matches against Evesham and Redditch and the Triple Six Competition.

Richard Groom and Bill Fleming, who took over as president and chairman of SAGL in 2015, introduced two informal awards.

Andy Smith was presented with the President’s Bottle for his continued efforts to maintain the website which is envied by other leagues and for his work keeping and maintaining team and individual statistics.

Graham East was handed the Chairman’s Award for meritorious service to the league for his tireless efforts working mainly behind the scenes with regard to events and competitions.

The league AGM will be held on Tuesday, July 4 (8pm) at Binton Social Club.
