STRATFORD Cycling Club junior Sam Abbott produced an excellent performance to finish fourth in the under 12 boys’ event in a closed circuit race at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
It was a first race of the season for Abbott and fellow SCC rider Matthew Jordan, whilst it was a second competition of the season for team-mate Oscar Martin.
Abbott stayed in touch with the leaders for much of the under 12s race, whilst Martin and Jordan raced in the under 14 boys’ race in which the pace on the first lap reached 32mph.
Martin, struggling to get over a chest infection, was dropped from the peloton, while Jordan, despite being dropped midway through the race, made the most of a temporary lull in the peloton’s speed and caught back up on the group to finish comfortably within the lead group in 12th.
As this is just the start of the season, the club are justifiably proud of these efforts and anticipate more good results throughout the season.
