Super Spencer shines once again

Stratford Editorial 12th Dec, 2016   0

EACH December the East and West Midlands unite for the Cyclo Cross Regional Championship, which was this year held at Darley Moor in Derbyshire and featured another impressive performance from Stratford Cycling Club rider Spencer Corder.

In bitterly cold conditions, the racing was top drawer and Stratford’s interest was in the under 12 event in which 76 took to the start line.

Although it was somewhat chaotic at the beginning with everyone wanting to be at the front, it soon settled down as the fastest riders pulled away.

Corder soon found his rivals would be those who joined him from the West Midlands, namely old adversary Luke Harris of Halesowen A&CC and Thomas White of Wolverhampton Wheelers.

Harris was quickest to complete the first lap but was soon joined by White and Corder.

The three boys pulled clear of the chasing field and took it in turns at the front to extend their lead to 36 seconds over the rest of the field.

At the flag it was always going to be a sprint finish in which Harris took the spoils on this occasion, with Corder second and White third.
