Wildmoor Tennis League action begins

THE WILDMOOR Tennis League covering South Warwickshire and parts of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire began with a strong contingent of 47 teams in six divisions.

In the Premier League, there were 4-0 wins for last year’s champions Stratford A, Alcester A and Chipping Campden A. Stratford top the table on games difference after Max Hurtubise and Will Morley-Cotterell and Tim Page and Callum Bailey won all the rubbers against Henley A.

Chipping Campden A are in second place after Tom Partridge and Tobias Kemp and Martin Ledbury and Ali Johnson won all four rubbers, although Ledbury and Johnson had a close match against Pershore A pair Jon Guppy and Martin Sime before coming out on top 7-5, 6-4.

In the final Premier Division match, Alcester A played Alcester B, with Alcester A taking all four rubbers. Alex Woodbridge and Marcus Powell took both points for the A team, beating Barney Williams and Matt Fielding (Alcester B) 6-2, 7-5 and Gareth Price and Sam Woodger 6-7, 6-3, 1-0.




On the other court, Alcester A team Stuart Beach and Charlie Watson won 6-3, 7-5 against Price and Woodger and 6-1, 6-2 against Williams and Fielding.

In Division One, Littleton A took an early lead in the table when they beat Studley A 4-0. Second place is shared by Inkberrow A, Stratford B and Moreton A who had 3-1 wins over Alcester C, Ardencote B and Evesham A respectively.


Shipston A top Division Two after a 4-0 home win over FISSC. Claverdon A sit second thanks to their 3-1 victory overo sister team Claverdon B, whilst the matches between Snitterfield A and Henley A and Chipping Campden B and Inkberrow B resulted in 2-2 draws.

In Division Three, three teams top the table with maximum points. Redditch B beat Redditch C 4-0, Pershore B defeated Inkberrow C 4-0 and Studley B beat Snitterfield B 4-0.

Warwick entertained Bidford A in a competitive 2-2 draw.

In Division Four Bidford B showed the way with a 4-0 home win over Claverdon C and top the table on games difference.

Evesham B beat Aston Cantlow 4-0 and Chipping Campden C saw off visitors Tysoe by the same scoreline. Shipston B were 3-1 winners at Wildmoor Spa A.

Moreton B top Division Five after a 4-0 win against Moreton C. Inkberrow D are second thanks to a 3-1 victory over Wildmoor Spa B, whilst Warwickshire County Council drew at home 2-2 to Henley C.
