Wilmcote reign supreme again

Stratford Editorial 20th Dec, 2018   0

WILMCOTE won the Stratford & District Airgun League’s LC Docker Cup for the fifth consecutive year as they edged out Binton A on points average difference.

Wilmcote topped the standings with an average points per game 0.42 higher than their closest rivals as both finished on 22 points from 12 matches – each beaten just once.

Although Binton A shot 230 points – the highest team score in the final week which gave them an overall team average of 225.33 – it was not enough to wrestle the trophy from Wilmcote who finished with a team average of 225.75.

The season ended with 23 individuals scoring maximum points.

Binton A defeated Binton B 230-210 in their final match. Conscious of the need for a high score, Binton A started well with Chris Reed getting the team off to a good start with 34.

He was followed by Andy Smith who got the last possible of the season. They pressed on with only fours and bulls and a finish of 34 from Will Cemis to win convincingly.

Binton B, who only had six shooters and needed an A N Other score, kept their shots close to the bull but the best they could do was Steve Hodge’s 32.

Both teams fielded eight shooters but the relatively inexperienced MEB shooters had too many threes to worry Wilmcote who won 226-208.

The best MEB could offer was 31 from Paul Onions and Rob Dipple. Wilmcote did much better and, with only fours and bulls including a possible for Adam Clarke and 33s from Sammy Skye Unitt, Lester Langford and Paul Clingan, emerged clear winners.

Avenue, who have had trouble finding a full team all season, had only five shooters and, with two A N Other scores, struggled throughout in their 215-198 defeat to Avon. Only two shooters managed to avoid the threes – Steve Everett (30) and Steve Garlick (31).

Avon led the scoring from the start and, with only fours and bulls, secured a solid win to give them third place in the league. Nick Williams was their top shot with 33 and Steve Ray did well with 32.
