Wiltshire wilt under Warwickshire pressure

Stratford Editorial 23rd May, 2017   0

AFTER a dismal wet day last Wednesday, it was good to see the sun come out 24 hours later as Warwickshire women defeated Wiltshire in their annual friendly at Wellesbourne.

Warwickshire won on all six rinks, with a final result of 126-79.

Highest winning rink went to Pat Bax (Rugby Ladies) with Margaret Boldy (Avon), Jean Williams (Stratford) and Rosemarie Geden (Southam) who picked up five shots on the fourth end to give themselves a boost from which they never really looked back, finishing 28-10 up.

Maureen Edwards with Yvonne Bromfield (both Rugby Thornfield), Joy Cooke (Blossomfield) and Pippa Mace (Lillington) started well and continued to pull ahead, lying 12-4 ahead at ten ends.

Despite a determined effort by their opposition, they managed to keep their lead and finished 22-13 up.

Maureen Tims (Whitnash) with Dawn Horne (RLS), Margaret Grosvenor (Lillington) and Chris Cooke (Southam) were fairly evenly matched with their opposition for the first half of the game but then three shots on the tenth end followed by five on the 13th made the difference and they went on to win 19-12.

Sue Hornsby with Chris Ward and Di Thurlbeck (all Lillington) and Lynne Innes (Stratford) were also evenly matched for the first half of the game – 7-7 at nine ends – but a sudden spurt from the 11th end made the difference, enabling them to finish 21-16 victors.

Jenny Corn (Lillington) with Di Medhurst (Stoke), Heather Tredgold (Southam) and Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) started slowly and trailed 15-8 by the 15th end.

However, they were not to be denied and a strong recovery enabled them to pull ahead with a final winning score of 20-15.

Elaine Taylor (Stoke) with Dorothy Manson (Avon), Donna Kerr (RLS) and Jean Petty (Norgren) were 7-7 at ten ends and continued fairly evenly, just managing to finish 16-13 up.

County president Chris Ward was delighted to present a colt badge to her club-mate Pippa Mace (Lillington) and a blazer badge to Donna Kerr (RLS).
