Young guns have lots to smile about

STRATFORD Cycling Club’s juniors were back in action in healthy numbers in round eight of the West Midlands Cyclo-cross League at Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees farm near Malvern.

The course – a brand new venue for the league – was well designed and described as ‘fast and flowing’ by the organisers, but this was not to be the case as the intense rain in the preceding days meant by lap two of the U6 race the course was already heavy and hard and was only set to get worse.

By the time the U16s raced, the steepest parts were barely walkable, which was not to the delight of Matthew Jordan and Luke Brennan who joined fellow competitors in slipping and sliding up the embankments as they pushed mud-clad bikes.

Stratford results: U6 girls – 2nd Fifi Kostka; U8 girls – 1st Molly Kostka; 5th Elise Storey; U10 girls – 5th Katie Groves; U12 boys – 4th Jefferson Tear-Verweij; 10th Ruben Stringfellow; U12 girls – 10th Marijke Tear-Verweij; U14 girls – 7th Lucy Sartain; U14 boys – 15th Joshua Darlow; 19th Alex Burden; U16 boys – 12th Matthew Jordan; 17th Luke Brennan.
